Since the conception of Woods n Water, Ma Deuce Deuce has supported, networked and inspired our journey. After several years of celebrating (partying) the Marine Corps Birthdays at Cookies in Philadelphia with Ma22, it was fitting that we join them this year for their 3rd annual OOORUCK to celebrate the 250th!!!
The location was at Toms River on Washington St with the local police blocking off one block for the celebration. It was a good location, having Capone’s restaurant, a brewery and a couple of food trucks to keep everyone from getting hungry or parched. Those working the businesses and the police assigned to the event were outstanding!
Woods n Water set up right next to Ma22, sharing information about the WnW Mission, handing out WnW T-shirts, snacks & water and enjoying the camaraderie with all involved. Directly across the street from us was the band that kicked ass throughout the day. After set up, we took the small trip to Huddy Park where the ruck march started. Woods n Water had three ruckers participating carrying the greatest Flag, the Marine Corps Flag & the Ma22 Marine 22 Flag (see photos). as we all made our way through the streets of Toms River on our preplanned route, there were MANY passer-by’s blowing their horns in support of the group. We had one small hiccup when we reached an unplanned road closer for a construction project. So, instead forward, Ma22 Addesso led us on a left turn and took the group around the road closer to our destination. While the event is to celebrate the Marine Corps Birthday, the 22 Veterans a day that die by suicide were still a focus point. Our detoured ruck ended up being 2.22 miles!!! “It was meant to be”
