During the spring and summer, we hold monthly fishing derbies for our Nation’s Heroes. As with all of our outdoor events, we hold them to show thanks to those that have served, provide a therapeutic activity for those it can help, offer an opportunity for camaraderie, as well as an achievable goal by competing as a team.

Assunpink Lake has been a location that we have had extreme heat & humidity to overcome. This year, board member Joe Phillips decided to hold the event a month later. IT WORKED!!! We had perfect weather. As with all of our Mission: HBF Derbies, both civilian and Veteran volunteer boaters were paired with a Veteran or First Responder, creating teams of two per boat. After an orientation, lunches & bottled water being provided, competition rules announced and we held a Pledge of Allegiance to our great Flag, they were off to fish.

Starting next WnW fishing season, we will incorporate year long categories which will include an end of year cookout & awards and/or prizes.
