Some of the great aspects of serving our Nation’s Heroes is meeting great people, developing relationships and expanding our family. That was definitely the case with Herb Souder, a WWII & Korean War Navy Hero, that would have been 104 in one more month (March 29)
WnW Co-Founders Emily Reid & George Daly had the honor of meeting and developing a relationship with Herb prior to starting WnW. At 101, Herb was still living alone, enjoying his hobbies of gardening, basket weaving, wood carvings and more. Not only was he still active, he still had a high level set of skills.
When the Covid pandemic restrictions began lifting, Herb was cautious and stayed home instead of coming out for the Deptford Mission BBQ’s monthly WWII Veteran lunches that Emily held, so Emily and George took lunch to him. Not forgetting one of his favorites……….. ribs!!! (see photo)
Unfortunately, Herb left us this past Monday (02/13/23). We are grateful for his friendship, his service and for being an outstanding role model of what a good American family man should be
