The good folks at the Millville, NJ Texas Roadhouse have been a supporter of Woods n Water since the start. Each year, they hold a “Dine to Donate” fundraiser for us as well as hold a drive to get donations for gift cards to Texas Roadhouse. Millville Texas Roadhouse donated several $50 gift cards!!!
We enjoy the fundraisers because while it is always good to raise the necessary funds to carryout our mission, it offers an opportunity to connect with their customers which can lead to volunteers and more importantly, our Nation’s Heroes. Monica Headley and her crew do an amazing job!
The gift cards are great at face value, but they provide a more important role. While we do hand them to thank Heroes for their service, we also use them for more important roles. Some times we give them to those that we provide food to from the WnW Food Pantry. We feel that it aids in their mental health by allowing them to have an opportunity to “get out” and enjoy themselves without the concern of the money it will cost. Some times we use them for Buddy Check-ins. Whether it is a Hero without a companion or someone that needs some motivation to get out and talk.
